The Reed Quintet "Calefax" has been described as "an ensemble with the mentality of pop music" and is highly acclaimed for its unparalleled technique. This album focuses on the United States and traces the history of American music from the 20th century to the present day! The album features not only classics such as Gershwin's famous "Rhapsody in Blue," the sonata by Florence Price, the leading African-American female composer, and Barber's "Excursion," but also jazz numbers by Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, and many more. Stevie Wonder, Moondog, and others. It is a true testament to Calefax's ability to perform works that transcend genres with such freedom. The group has released many works on the MDG label.In recent years, the PENTATONE label has released "Hidden Treasures" (KKC-6198 / PTC-5186696), "Dido and Aeneas" (PTC-5186758), and "Bach's Musical Tributes" (out of print), and this album "American Rhapsody" is the fourth release.
