Description:

Guitart & Gruppo Mondebello! Small group Beethoven! Gruppo Montebello is an ensemble project by Guitarte and Henk Guitarte, a specialist of the New Vienna School of Music who founded the Schoenberg Ensemble and participated in numerous recordings as a violist of the Schoenberg Quartet. They have created a buzz with their popular series of contemporary recreations of Schoenberg's "Private Performance Society," featuring chamber music versions of various works arranged by Schoenberg's friends and pupils, and they have also recorded a small version of Beethoven's masterpiece, going back a bit in time from the "Private Performance Society. The first recording was made by the "Private Performing Society" in 1966. Along with the Violin Concerto, Henk Guitart has arranged the beloved "Two Romances" for violin and orchestra, and the "Triple Concerto" with its unusual arrangement of piano, violin, and cello as soloists, into versions accompanied by a chamber ensemble. The compositions differ from piece to piece, but the ensemble of around 11 members delivers the enchantment of the small ensemble version, which was frequently performed even in Beethoven's time. The soloist in "Two Romances" is Kseniya Gamaris, who is also the first violinist of the Lusquartet. Also of interest is the double bass version of "Cello Sonata No. 3" arranged by the young British double bassist Toby Hughes, who performs regularly as principal with the Manchester Camerata and Northern Ballet and is also a versatile soloist. Recorded live at the "Åland Music Festival," the oldest international chamber music festival in the Netherlands, where Henk Guitart serves as artistic director. Tokyo M-Plus
