The Canadian diva, Hannigan, who is also a great performer of contemporary music, is a guest performer, and her signature song, "The Secret of Macabre," is also included! Rattle's "The Rite of Spring" has been released five times before, with the English National Youth Orchestra (1977), the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (1987), and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (2003, 2009 (video), 2012). This is the latest recording of the Rattle Rhapsody, 40 years after its first release. Rattle said of "The Rite of Spring": "I have been conducting this work since I was 19 years old. Rattle's ensemble with the LSO is undeniably tense, and the tension is undeniably palpable.Webern's "Six Pieces for Orchestra" is full of scene, and the LSO members responded well to Rattle's subtle expressiveness. In "The Secret of the Macabre," Canadian soprano Hannigan appeared in a gown reminiscent of bright red blood. As this is her specialty, she gave an uncanny performance with a vivid pronunciation of "poussou" at the beginning of the piece.
