Live from the 2016 Salzburg Easter Music FestivalThielemann's production of "Otello" features the remarkable Vincent Boussercoula, Leschmann, Alvarez, and a strong lineup Live from the 2016 Salzburg Easter Music Festival. The Salzburg Easter Festival was founded by Karajan in 1967, and since 2013, Christian Thielemann, one of the greatest conductors of our time and Karajan's assistant, has been the artistic director of the festival, with the Staatskapelle Dresden as the resident orchestra. The main program of the 2016 Salzburg Easter Festival will be Verdi's opera Otello, based on Shakespeare's novel, which celebrates the 400th anniversary of his death. The original cast included Johan Botha as Otello and Dimitri Hvorostovsky as Iago, but both cancelled due to illness (Johan Botha later sadly passed away) and were replaced by Jose Cura and Carlos Alvarez.The production is directed by Vincent Boussard and Vincent Lemaire, up-and-coming French directors who attracted attention with their 2015 New National Theatre New Production of the opera "La Traviata. The production opens with an elegant opening, with beautiful images reflected on the veil-covered stage. The performance skillfully depicts Otello's loneliness, jealousy, and frustration, as well as Desdemona's anguish. The costumes are by fashion designer Christian Lacroix. Lacroix, who specializes in gorgeous, extreme colors, is also a highlight of the vivid costumes. Of special note is José Cura. Although he may not have been in the best condition due to a change in cast, he has performed many times since his debut with Otero in 1997, and his singing is very stable. As she gets older, her dignity grows, and she is a perfect fit for the role. The other must-see is Desdemona, sung with emotion and delicacy by Dorothea Reschmann, the famous German soprano who won a Grammy Award the other day. Carlos Alvarez as Iago also sings with overwhelming power.Thielemann's flexible and sensitive music-making, and the orchestra's matured, rich sound and perfect ensemble, make this performance a reminder of Thielemann's ability as an opera conductor and his musicality.
