In 1883, at the age of 25, Puccini entered the "Sonziono Competition" (a competition for operas in one act) on the recommendation of his teacher Ponchielli, and began composing "Vigli the Fairy". He started to compose "Vigli the Fairy". However, he was unable to complete the work by the deadline, and although he sent in the unfinished score, he was unsuccessful. However, thanks to Beuth's efforts, it was premiered in 1884 to great acclaim. After that, he signed a contract with Ricordi to revise the work into a "two-act version," which is now known as the current version, but this performance is the first performance of the original version in one act, reconstructed by Martin Deasy. (The album also includes three arias added for the two-act version.) The leading role of Anna is sung by Hermonella Yaho, an up-and-coming young soprano. She beautifully sings Anna's grief at being abandoned by her beloved Robert. Soghomonian as Roberto also gives an excellent performance as the frivolous young man, and Mulligan, who sings Guglielmo, Anna's father, aptly portrays an intelligent and wise man.Elder's masterful control of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, which colors the scenes of dancing fairies and lovers' love, is also a must-hear. This is a project typical of the OperaRara label that sheds light on forgotten operas. Warner Music Japan
