Baritone Holger Falck and pianist Schleiermacher begin a series of recordings of songs by Darius Milhaud! Baritone Holger Falck and pianist Steffen Schleiermacher, who have recorded such well-known works as Hans Eisler's Lieder and Honegger's Lieder (MDG-61322032), will begin a series of recordings of songs by Darius Milhaud, a member of the French six-member group. The series will begin with a recording of the songs of Darius Milhaud, one of the members of the French sextet. The range of Milhaud's songs, from the glamorous cabaret songs to the more serious songs, is so wide-ranging that it is difficult to get a complete picture of the music. It will be a very exciting start to the series to see how the two will tackle the huge maze of Milhaud's music. While his contemporaries pursued atonal and twelve-tone techniques, Milhaud remained faithful to tonal music throughout his life. The five-eighths time signature of "Vocalise Etudes" has the distinctive sound of a South American dance rather than a vocal exercise. The "On the Streets of Rio" is influenced by memories of his stay in Brazil. A Night in Petrograd," based on a recording of a Russian émigré troupe, gives the impression of unique cabaret music. This is a disc in which one can fully enjoy the world of Milhaud, who makes full use of a wide variety of musical ideas. King International
