A collection of string quartets by David Fontanesi (b.1969), who deliberately adopts a countercultural approach to his music. The works feature clear melodies and intense harmonies, a solid fugal style, and strong counterpoint elements that use imitation, multiple or retrograde canons. The Mark Rothko Ensemble (Ensemble Mark Rothko) was formed in 2011 by a group of outstanding string players from northeastern Italy, whose members share a variety of professional experiences in chamber music, solo, orchestral, and teaching, and are committed to sharing their varied professional experiences and promoting the wonderful, rarely-heard The members share a variety of professional experiences in chamber, solo, orchestral, and teaching music, promoting a wonderful repertoire that audiences rarely hear. Carlo Lazzari, Benjamin Bernstein, and Marianna Sinagra studied with the Italian String Quartet and the Trieste Trio, and have performed internationally and recorded on several major labels.They have been principal players in major Italian orchestras (La Scala in Milan, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Arena di Verona, Trieste Verdi Opera, Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic Orchestra) and abroad as soloists in the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfonica di São Paulo He has been a soloist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfonica di São Paulo, among others.
