The latter half of the 135th anniversary of Furtwängler's birth is marked by the great discovery of the century! The truth about Furtwängler's supreme masterpiece live performance "The Ninth at Bayreuth," which has been praised as "the greatest treasure of all mankind," is finally revealed! The program was broadcast live by Swedish Broadcasting Corporation on July 29, 1951, from the announcement in four languages (German, French, English, and Swedish in that order) at the beginning of the program, to the entrance of the master, to his full-scale conducting, to the rather long interval, and finally to the more than two and a half minutes of loud cheers and stormy applause (and the announcement of the end of the program). The SACD hybrid disc contains all the sounds of the night without any cuts for 85 minutes. The opening announcement was "1951 Bayreuth Festival. The Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation presents the opening concert of the Richard Wagner Festival (Bayreuth Festival) from the Bayreuth Festival Theatre via German-Austrian, British, French, and Stockholm Broadcasting. The piece is Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, conducted by Wilhelm Furtwängler." This was indeed a live broadcast.The trigger for the excavation was a 56-page A4 booklet entitled "Furtwangler / A Discography by Rene Tremine" (published in 1997 by Tarra Productions), which was left behind by the late Rene Tremine, the president of the French Tarra label, which had close ties with King International. In the last line of the section "The Ninth at Bayreuth" (July 29, 1951, Bayreuth, Festival Opera Orchestra), there is the following description - Bavarian Radio, Munich and Swedish Radio (archive LB 14784). Bavarian Radio, Munich and Swedish Radio were also broadcasting! With this one line of information as a guide, we asked Robert von Bahr, the chairman of BIS Sweden, with whom we have a long-standing relationship, to search for the source of the recordings. Finally, we found it! Even Mr. Treminu was unable to obtain it, and it had lain dormant at the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation for 70 years. There is a temporary volume drop at around 13:08 on track 6, but this is due to the master tape owned by the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation. This is believed to have occurred when the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation was simultaneously recording the live broadcast on tape, and BIS did not correct the sound but used it as is. King International
