Madness in both technique and cadenza! Challenge Mozart's D minor concerto arranged by Alkan! Paul Waugh is a well-known lawyer in London. He is not only a first-rate pianist, but is also highly acclaimed for his skill and clear interpretations of the pieces, which are so difficult that even the best pianists shy away from them. This time, he took on the masterpieces of Beethoven and Mozart. The former is a symphony arranged by Liszt, and the latter is a piano concerto arranged by Alkan. The Liszt-arranged "Hero" is a difficult piece that requires not only technical skill but also concentration and persuasiveness to keep the listener engaged for 50 minutes. Wei's moving rendition of the piece is a joy to listen to, with his ample technical skill and singing spirit. Alkan's version of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 was published in 1861. It is incredibly difficult, of course, but the cadenzas written for the first and third movements are the essence of Alkan's work. While making full use of elaborate techniques such as quotations from Symphony No. 41 "Jupiter," it is so unusual in its tonal conception that it seems to be more than half a century ahead of its time, and even makes us feel as if the main part of the first movement is a prelude to the cadenza.
