After completing the monumental Sibelius symphony cycle with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra (BIS 1286 / 1995-97), Vänskä has led the Minnesota Orchestra since 2011, and has recorded the complete Sibelius symphonies for the first time with the orchestra. In 2011, she began her second recording of the complete works with the Minnesota Orchestra. He is also well known for his performance of Beethoven's complete symphonies (BIS SA 1825) with the Minnesota Orchestra. The completion of the second Sibelius recording was not without its difficulties. The first release, No. 2 & No. 5 (2011), was well received, and the following No. 1 & No. 4 (2012) were released smoothly, but then a labor dispute between the Minnesota Orchestra's board of directors and orchestra members led to a rupture, and then in October 2013, Vänskä temporarily resigned. The planned third recording was interrupted by Vänskä's temporary resignation in October 2013, which made it difficult to realize. However, due to many requests and Vänskä's desire to record the complete works, the recording of Nos. 3, 6 & 7 was made in May and June 2015, and finally completed.The re-recording of Vänskä's work, described as "reminiscent of the Finnish landscape," was highly acclaimed. You can enjoy Vänskä's maturity and further depth. Even more exciting, the recording also includes the Kullervo performed live (recorded in February 2016) at a concert "commemorating the 150th anniversary of the beginning of immigration from Finland to North America". This is also Vänskä's second recording; the first was released in 2000 on his first album (BIS 1215) with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, recorded in the then newly built Sibelius Hall.
