Description:
British soprano Ruby Hughes sings Mahler, Ives, and Grime in this SACD hybrid release. Hughes made national headlines in 2009 when she won first prize and the Audience Award at the London Handel Singing Competition, and was subsequently selected as a BBC New Generation Artist in 2011 and 2013, and has been active ever since. Hughes has been active since then, and this album, themed "Songs for a New Life and Love," includes such classics as "Songs for a Wandering Young Man" and "Songs for a Lost Child," in which she sings with even greater brilliance. The album closes with the warm and tender "Lullaby," a Welsh folk song. Pianist Joseph Middleton, who has worked with Carolyn Sampson, Felicity Lott, Sarah Connolly, and many other well-known singers, complements Hughes' vocals and sings beautifully.
