A tradition that continues unbroken. Stark's recording of unaccompanied works for violin or viola by four Hungarian composers! Nurit Stark has recorded solo works for violin or viola by four Hungarian composers, Bartók, Ligeti, Veresh, and Eötvös. Bartók was Veresh's teacher and Veres was Ligeti's teacher. Ligeti was not Eötvös's direct teacher, but Ligeti's advice enabled Eötvös to enter the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. Their music is a fusion of Western musical traditions and Eastern European and other folk music, organically linked, but with a style all its own. Born in Israel, Stark studied at the Juilliard School under Robert Mann. He also studied with the Alban Berg Quartet at the Cologne Conservatory of Music, and has won several competitions and awards.Also released on the BIS label is Kurtag's "Kafka Fracture" (BIS SA-2175). King International Inc.
