The Chiaroscuro Quartet presents the third Haydn release from the "Erdödy Quartets": No. 75, No. 76 "Fifth Degree" and No. 77 "Emperor"! The Chiaroscuro Quartet, led by violinist Alina Ibragimova (the name "Chiaroscuro" means "contrast" or "shadow"), continues to record Haydn for the BIS label. The third recording in the Haydn series on the BIS label includes the Erdödy Quartets No. 75, No. 76 "Fifth Degree", and No. 77 "Emperor". Haydn's six string quartets (Nos. 75-80), so named because they were dedicated to Count Erdödy. Of the six string quartets, No. 75 has the most relaxed atmosphere with a lively melody, No. 76 "Fifth Degree" features a descending fifth-degree pitch in the first theme of the first movement, and No. 77 "Emperor," so named because the second movement is a variation on a theme from his own composition "Imperial Hymn," is performed by the Chiaroscuro Quartet in a crisp and clear performance. The quartet was formed in April 2016.
