Reger (1873-1916)
Description:
Finnish conductor Segerdam's hidden masterpiece recordings of Reger's orchestral works will be reissued as a 3-CD set. Reger's orchestral works are characterized by his late Romanticism, and his works are also characterized by his pseudo-classical style, which is a reproduction of Bach's style. In particular, the orchestration of these works is full of elaborate designs, variations on themes, and techniques of linear counterpoint, and Reger created his own style by adopting new harmonic techniques from the New German Romanticism, such as Wagner's, and French impressionism, and combining them with linear counterpoint. This combined with linear counterpoint to create a style unique to Reger. Among Reger's orchestral works, Variations on a Theme by Mozart and Fugue, Op. 132, is one of the most famous, featuring the theme of the variation in the first movement of the Turkish March.Familiar melodies reveal a new side to Reger. This recording of Segerstam's clean, vividly flickering, yet very nostalgic musicality makes this a rare performance. King International
