Description:
EXPLODINGFLOWERS is a four-piece band from Los Angeles, California, consisting of SHARIFDUMANI on vocals and guitar, JOSHMANCELL on drums, HAPPYTSUGAWA-BANTA on organ and vibraphone, and MARKSOGOMIAN on bass. SHARIFDUMANI has frequently performed with LA punk pioneer ALICEBAG and neo-soul maverick CODYCHESNUTT, while JOSHMANCELL and MARKSOGOMIAN gained experience in the local psychedelic garage band THEMOONUPSTAIRS, while HAPPYTSUGAWA-BANTA is known as a virtuoso who has appeared as a guest on albums by the shoegaze-pop heavyweights LASSIEFOUNDATION. With their jangly guitars, uplifting harmonies, and multi-layered arrangements, they have released three albums to date, crafting a unique brand of guitar pop that resonates with the 1980s Paisley Underground and New Zealand’s Flying Nuns scene. Their fourth album, released in 2026, came to fruition in just one year following their 2025 predecessor *WATERMELON/PEACOCK*, which featured an all-star lineup of guests including RACHELLOVE from DOLLYMIXTURE and JOWEHEAD from SWELLMAPS. They have further expanded the melodic songwriting sensibility they’ve cultivated over the years, weaving a diverse array of instruments—including piano, organ, synthesizer, and vibraphone—into a meticulously crafted ensemble. By distilling the essence of their predecessors—such as BIGSTAR, CHILLS, FOUNTAINSOFWAYNE, and SOFTBOYS—and refining it into a contemporary sound, they have created the most polished work of their career to date. Featuring 12 tracks—including “SPINNINGCAROUSEL,” with its lively, light-footed beat—this masterpiece paints a vivid, nostalgic picture through dazzling arpeggios and beautiful, intertwining vocal harmonies. The meticulously crafted arrangements offer new discoveries with every listen. Timeless, universal melodies harmonize beautifully with a soundscape refined down to the finest detail. This masterpiece proves their unwavering aesthetic sensibility within the contemporary indie pop scene. Available on fluorescent green colored vinyl.
