Maurice Bourgue was the Principal Oboe of the Orchestre de Paris from 1967 to 1979, and taught at the International Academy of Chamber Music in Weg and the Conservatoire de Genève, and gave master classes all over the world. This is a reissue of the famous recording of the Maurice Bourg Wind Octet (2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 horns, and 2 bassoons), formed by Bourg in 1972 with members of the Orchestre de Paris. This album combines Gounod's "Petite Symphonie" (Woodwind Quintet), dedicated to the "Association of Chamber Music for Woodwinds" founded by Paul Taffanel, the "father of the modern flute," to enrich the repertoire of woodwinds, and "Songs and Dances" commissioned by the Association and composed by Dandy. This is a must-have disc for French music fans that brings the richly colored, mellow sound and virtuosity of the masters of yesteryear, who arguably laid the foundations for the traditional French sound, to the present day.
