The "small choral works" project is another counterpart to the "large oratorio" project that has become synonymous with the geniuses of the ancient music world, Paul MacLeish and the Gabrieli Consort. Following "Incarnation" (SIGCD346), which celebrated the Nativity of Christ, "Silence and Music" is the latest work in the "Choral Works" series for 2017, a program themed on 20th century England, when "part-song" was at its peak. MacLeish is passionate about "part-song," a form of choral singing, and says he loves poetry as much as the infinite possibilities of the human voice, and he has always sought new possibilities and discoveries in Baroque and Renaissance music with OVPP (One Voice Per Part), oratorios and requiem music with super-sized orchestras, etc. The beautiful harmonies of MacLeish and the Gabrieli Consort, who have always sought new possibilities and discoveries, will broadly convey the charm of 20th century British part-songs, where music and poetry are woven together.
