The latest release from legendary drummer Lewis Hayes, born in Detroit in 1937 and active at the forefront since the 1950s! Since then, he has played with numerous jazz legends such as John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Oscar Peterson, and Freddie Hubbard, and continues to perform energetically today. This is his latest work, recorded in January 2021. It contains 10 songs and features veteran tenor player Abraham Burton, orthodox vibraphonist Steve Nelson, popular white pianist David Hazeltine, and talented bassist Deslon Douglas. Also featured on vocals is saxophonist, vocalist, and versatile female artist Camille Thurman. The title tune, "Crisis," is a Hubbard original from Freddie Hubbard's 1962 Blue Note release Ready For Freddie.Lewis came to NY in 1956, but Hubbard came to NY two years later in 1958 and they hit it off and lived in an apartment in the same building in Brooklyn for a few years. There are also plenty of other Jazzmen originals and Lee Morgan's "Desert Moonlight" to listen to. The steady playing of Abraham Burton and Steve Nelson shines throughout. The drum playing is brilliant on all songs. This is a great album in which you can enjoy the superb A-class playing.
