The SWR Big Band, a renowned German big band with a 70-year history, has invited a group of splendid soloists to bring Charlie Parker's music back to the modern age with sophisticated and thrilling arrangements in this remarkable project! The SWR Big Band, featuring Swedish-born Magnus Lindgren (fl,ts), a central figure in the Stockholm jazz scene, and John Beasley (p), who has recently demonstrated his great arranging skills in a project with Thelonious Monk, will bring Charlie Parker's masterpieces back to the present day with sophisticated and thrilling arrangements. The SWR Bigband will bring Charlie Parker's classic songs back to life in the modern age. Guest players include veteran players Joe Lovano (ts), Chris Potter (ts), and Charles McPherson (as), as well as Miguel Zenón (as) and Pedrito Martinez (per), who are key figures in the contemporary New York Latin jazz scene. The result is a sophisticated and up-to-date modern big band sound, while retaining the essence of the bebop and Latin jazz characteristics of Charlie Parker's music.The arrangements, which take advantage of the string-featured sound that SWR Bigband has been working on for the last decade, are in keeping with Charlie Parker's intention of playing with an orchestra in his later years.
