Description:
The new album by Adam Baldych, a young violinist from Poland, features a trio led by Helge Lien, a pianist who is very popular in Japan, as on his previous album "Bridges" released in 2015. In addition, the very popular Norwegian saxophonist Tore Brunborg joins the trio for some of the songs on this album. The sound is rich in overtones with the warmth of wood. The style of playing is not technical, but expressive through the control of tone and dynamics. The compositions are simple, pastoral melodies with refined harmonies that have a European charm. The trio's clear Scandinavian touch enhances its appeal many times over. The album is a concept album, beginning with the first track "Prelude" and ending with the eighth track "Coda". This album, "Brothers," is dedicated to the memory of his late brother, and even the simple song titles, such as "Faith," "Love," and "One," are very special. The second track, "Elegy," is based on the theme of "Prelude" and develops in a somber way; the fourth track, "Love," is lovely with its pizzicato violin and bright tune; and the sixth track, "Brothers," seems to be struggling with grief over the loss of a brother and trying to overcome the pain. The direct connection between the title and the song, and the scenes that come to mind, is the result of Baldych's taste.In the eighth track, "Shadows," the violin and Torre's saxophone overlap like a harmony, even though they are in unison, and it is absolutely beautiful. This is a must for European jazz fans, Scandinavian jazz fans, Helge Lien fans, and even Torre Brunborg fans, although he does not appear on the album very often.
