Madeline Perreault, the singer/songwriter who has been called "the Billie Holiday of the 21st century," releases her ninth new album in nearly two years. She debuted in 1996 with the album "Dreamland" and has released eight albums in the past 22 years, and is one of the singer-songwriters who has expanded the boundaries of jazz and won four Academy Awards in 2018 for her album "The Shape of Water," a film that won four Academy Awards. This release comes amidst the attention that Gainsbourg's cover of "La Javanese" from "Half the Perfect World" was used in the film, which won four Academy Awards.For this album, he once again teamed up with Larry Cline to co-produce and co-write the album, which also features Patrick Warren (Bonnie Raitt, JD Souther, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Lana Del Rey, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Brian MacLeod (Sara Bareilles, Leonard Cohen, Tina Turner, Ziggy Marley), David Baerwald (Joni Mitchell, David and David, Sheryl Crow), and many other songwriters with whom he has collaborated and performed together. The album was born out of the 2016 U.S. presidential election, and the work began with a seemingly political content, but it also looks into her own personal world and sings with a sense of humor. The title of the album is a classic by Leonard Cohen, whom she has covered in the past, and she also covers the World War II poem "Liberte" by Éluard.She says, "This is the work I put the most effort into." She spent several months in the studio, pursuing the sound that each original song should have, and mastered it, letting the song take its natural course. A work that will leave you intoxicated by the simple yet powerful and relaxing numbers that only Madeline Perreault can deliver!
