Washington, DC-based experimental jazz-punk trio The Mesthetics (drummer Brendan Canty, Joe Larry of the seminal punk band Fugazi, and guitarist Anthony Pirog) have teamed up with acclaimed jazz tenor saxophonist, composer, and bandleader James Brandon Lewis for their debut album impulse! The band's debut album impulse! They have layered jazz, punk, funk, aggression, and innovation into a definitive range of instrumental music. The Mesthetics, a band formed in 2016 by former Fugazi members Joe Larry and Brendan Canty with guitarist Anthony Pirog, whose rabid fan base spans the globe, followed two years later by their self-titled debut, and in 2019, their second album, " Anthropocosmic Nest" has been released so far, but this album marks the debut of impulse! The Mesthetics and James Brandon Lewis connected in 2022 with "Fear Not.Upon the release of the song, Lewis exclaimed in a press statement, " The Messthetics are friends at this point, and collaborating with them over the years has taken our musical bond and pure unadulterated energy to another height!" . In a new statement, Lewis also talks about working with bassist Joe Lally and drummer Brendan Canty. He said, "I respect them the same way I respect playing with Jamaladeen Takuma or with William Parker." It's an experience along a certain path that you don't get in school."
