Owain Arwell Hughes) grew up the son of successful composer and conductor Arwell Hughes (1909-1988), studied conducting with Boult, Haitink, and Kempe, and has been a passionate music maker for over 40 years. The first volume of the Sibelius Cycle with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, for which he served as principal deputy conductor, opens with Symphonies Nos. 1 and 3. Although not yet well known in Japan, he has built up a solid reputation in Europe and the United States, and in 2009 he was awarded the CBE (third rank in the Order of the British Empire).
