Lance Ferguson

Lance Ferguson, known as "Australia's Mark Ronson," releases the third installment of his popular series, "Rare Groove Spectrum, Vol. 3"! Featuring covers of Earth, Wind & Fire, Idris Muhammad, Billy Irish and more! Lance Ferguson is a New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based producer/songwriter/guitarist/DJ/artist. As a producer/collaborator, he has worked with Arrow Black, Roy Ayers, Quantic, and many other diverse artists. His cross-genre approach has earned him the reputation as "Australia's Mark Ronson," and as a guitarist he has worked with such legends as Ed Sheeran, Sly Johnson, and Joe Bataan. Now he releases "Rare Groove Spectrum, Vol. 3," the third installment of his very popular series! In this Vol. 3, Lance takes a wide range of subjects, including 70s Australian jazz funk, big band soul breaks, Latin fusion classics, and reinterpretations of golden era funk, and reconstructs them through his rich musical draw and intuitive ear. The album as a whole showcases Lance's exquisite skills as a multi-instrumentalist and arranger, blending a record-digger aesthetic with modern studio work. He states. The main theme of this series is to honor the originals while at the same time finding a new angle on them. You have to be pious and inventive at the same time." The album includes "Could Heaven Ever Be Like This," a brilliant reinterpretation of Idris Muhammad's 1977 jazz-funk classic; "Dominoes," a bold revival of the jungle cult track; and a dense reworking of Billy Irish's "My Future" featuring Australian soul/jazz singer Rita Thatch. The album's key track, "Losalamitoslatinfunklovesong," encapsulates Rare Groove Spectrum's spirit of radical reinterpretation with deep respect. It is a song that encapsulates the spirit of Rare Groove Spectrum's deeply respectful and radical reinterpretations. (1/2)
