Description:
This is a rare collection of works by German composer Fischer (1656-1746) from the Baroque period. Although little is known about his life, his works are said to show the influence of Lully and other French composers, and his "Musical Ariadne," also included on this album, is said to be a precursor to Bach's "Mean Clavier Works. This performance, a collaboration between two American ancient music ensembles, Exultemus and Newton Baroque, combines the psalm of the Evening Division with the aforementioned Ariadne of Music and instrumental music by contemporary composer Petz to create an actual form of prayer that expresses the atmosphere of a church of the time. 2014.
