Two hidden popular symphonies by Gardner, a gem of a post-Rattle artist! A fascinating coupling of two of the most popular symphonies by the LPO's star conductor, Gardner, who is now 50 years old in 2025, is a well-oiled LPO principal conductor, and his contract as principal conductor was extended last year due to his reputation. He sang in the choir of his native Gloucester Cathedral and studied at Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music in London. While still a student, he became music director of the Wokingham Choral Society, and has studied as a chorépteur at the Salzburg Festival and assistant to Mark Elder at the Halle Orchestra, and became music director of the touring Glideborn, a gateway to success for young conductors. He was also appointed Music Director of the English National Opera. He is currently Principal Conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a true professional conductor who has come up from choral conducting and choreography to perform both opera and concert music. He is a gem of a British conductor, and is often called the post-Rattle conductor. He has the appearance of an upper-middle-class English nobleman, and his precise music making is very attractive. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2001, and some say he will soon be knighted. This is a piece of music and performance that will move your appetite for more. LPO
