Philippe Jaroussky & Artaserse

Description:

Philip Jaroussky's new release is a jealous 18th century Italian cantata, This definitive recording includes world premiere recordings! The album "Gelosia! (Jealousy!)" was recorded by Philippe Jaroussky, one of the leading countertenors in the world of countertenor music, with his old music ensemble "Ensemble Artaserse". Gelosia!" (Jealousy!). The album delves into the world of chamber cantatas, which flourished in the 18th century, with a particular focus on two cantatas based on the poem "La Gelosia" (Jealousy) by Pietro Metastasio, a scriptwriter. The two composers are Nicola Porpora of Naples (1746) and Baldassare Galuppi of Venice (1782). Both works have never been recorded before, and this is the world premiere recording. Jaroussky says of this work, "In the cantata, away from the constraints of opera, the composer expresses his personal feelings more freely. Porpora's work shines with the beauty of the Gallant style, full of gorgeous triplets and ornaments, while Galuppi's cantatas are more classical and concise in style, but still alive with subtlety of expression, and each recitative and aria richly portrays the inner life of a character suffering from jealousy. The album also includes the famous cantatas by Vivaldi, Handel, and Alessandro Scarlatti, all of whom Jaroussky has sung extensively in the past, representing the golden age of cantatas.Jaroussky called A. Scarlatti "the master of the chamber cantata" and praised Vivaldi's work as "a masterpiece of emotional surges. In Handel's work, the dialogue between voice and flute is sensually alluring. This is a remarkable work that brings back to life the unknown masterpieces of cantatas and at the same time concentrates the fascination of the psychological drama of Baroque vocal music.
