Spain, Ravel's foreign country and home. This live recording expresses the relationship between the musical veins of Spain, a relationship that was shared and united. Maurice Ravel: The Connection Between Art and Identity Although Ravel is best known as a French impressionist composer, his music is strongly influenced by Spanish culture. Ravel's mother was of Basque origin and he grew up near the French-Spanish border. From an early age, he became familiar with Spanish rhythms and melodies, which he combined into his own music. Thus, although he is a French composer, he is also deeply rooted in the Spanish tradition. In addition, although Ravel's music is often categorized as impressionistic, it actually contains diverse elements of modernism, baroque, and jazz, establishing its own distinctive language. His works have energy, color, rich orchestration, and a contrast between minimalism and maximalism, with a singular fascination for contemplation and passion. In particular, Asian harmony, which he was exposed to at the Paris Exposition of 1889, also had a profound influence on his music. Ravel's compositional technique is extremely precise, with a thorough knowledge of the characteristics of each instrument and meticulous design of harmony and timbre. His music has the power of a lively "prayer," as if in dialogue with God. His "Spanish-ness" lies not in mere technique, but in his deep understanding and expression of Spanish culture and spirit. Building bridges between different cultures through music is Ravel's greatest appeal. In this album, the Orfeon Donostiara, one of the leading choral ensembles of Basque culture, joins Ravel in recording "Daphnis et Chloe" together. This is a recording that allows the listener to fully experience the energy and diversity of Ravel's music. (1/2) Warner Music Japan
