Description:
The brilliant colors and crisp urban sensibility of the gifted conductor Aziz Shokhakimov are the result of a clear understanding of the scoring, and together with Shostakovich, Prokofiev is one of the most famous Russian composers of the 20th century, with a new interpretation of Prokofiev's performance. The "Symphony No. 1" (Classical Symphony), written shortly after the February Revolution and just before Prokofiev left his native country, is based on the Viennese Classical style, as the title suggests, but it also incorporates radical harmonic progressions and modulations, and is considered one of Prokofiev's early masterpieces. Romeo and Juliet, one of the most famous ballets of the 20th century, was not performed immediately due to the circumstances of the ballet itself, so Prokofiev composed a suite of excerpts from the complete ballet version and recomposed them for a concert performance. The premiere of the complete ballet version was later given in Brno, Czechoslovakia. Both pieces feature Prokofiev's characteristic steel modernism, lyrical and beautiful melodies and sounds, and colorful and eccentric ideas.Aziz Shokhakimov has been Music Director of the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra since the 2021/2022 season and is so highly regarded that his contract has been further extended through 2026 He conducts the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra in 2018 and 2022. In his previous album "Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 5, Romeo and Juliet," he created a new image of Tchaikovsky by adding exquisite flavor to the sharp rhythms. In this Prokofiev, too, the tempi of each piece are perfectly chosen, the melodies sing well throughout, and the warm and vivid colors and crisp urban sense of the music bring out the best of the composer's confident interpretation and the characteristics of the instruments, fully grasping his intentions. The various instruments are layered with multiple resonances, and the power and exhilaration of the percussion group is unintentionally overwhelming. Shokhakimov's performance is a masterpiece of a new interpretation of Prokofiev's music, the result of a clear understanding of the scoring.Imports handled by Warner Music Japan only, with Japanese manual and obi Warner Music Japan
