A musician's musician" - it must be a great pleasure for any musician to be called a "musician's musician. And that is because he or she has reached the level of "virtuoso" or "maestro," in other words, a "maestro" as a musician. Alan Holdsworth is one of the few musicians and guitarists who have reached the level of such a "maestro. His numerous albums are now being released on hybrid SACD! With his live performances stabilized, Alan Holdsworth's first production operation got off to a smooth start, and without a long interval, he began to work on the album. Instead of recording with a different band member for each song as in the past, the album was recorded with only four members: touring friend Gary Husband, Steve Hunt, who had been a member of the band since the last album, and bassist Skri Sverrisson from Iceland, who was a touring member at this point in time. The album was produced with only four members, including Steve Hunt, who had been a member of Hazmat and the previous band. The compositional aspect of the album is also slightly different from their previous works.Although some of the songs had previously featured songs by the members who participated in the recording process, with the exception of two co-written songs, all of the songs were written from Holdsworth's pen. Produced under a variety of circumstances, "Hard Hat Area" was one of Holdsworth's most confident albums in quite some time. The lyrical opening tune "Prelude" by Holdsworth and Steve, "Rakaka" with Holdsworth's high-tension & aggressive guitar solo dominating the entire song, and "Soul of the Soul" with its mechanical & classical intro by Syntax and supple guitar solo over inorganic rhythm pattern. The interplay between the four members in the latter half of the album is a masterpiece!
