The Sixteen's 2023 Choral Pilgrimage Program to Commemorate the 400th Anniversary of William Byrd's Death! Renaissance works centered on William Byrd on the 400th anniversary of his death, plus a world premiere recording of a new commissioned work by Tabakova! The latest album by the Sixteen, the greatest treasures of the British choral world, is "A Watchful Gaze", a 2023 program of the Choral Pilgrimage, one of the core events of the Sixteen's UK tour. The program features works by William Byrd (c.1543-1623), the great English Renaissance composer, whose death will be commemorated on the 400th anniversary of his death in 2023, as well as music by composers who influenced Byrd, including Clemens Non Papa, Philip de Monte, and Philip van Wilder. The world premiere recording of the album is the first recording of a concerto by the composer. And for the world premiere recording, two works by Dobrinka Tabakova, a Bulgarian composer born in 1980 who has lived in London since the age of 11 and is active internationally.Commissioned by The Sixteen to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Byrd's death, this new work is a beautiful example of contemporary polyphony while continuing Byrd's musical legacy.
