The third collection of Gottlieb Muffat works by harpsichordist Naoko Akutagawa. This is the last album in the series and the first recording in three years on the same instrument (Ruckers/Emsch by Henk van Schevikhoven) as the first (8.572610) and second (8.573275) collections. The composer, Gottlieb Muffat, was the youngest son of Georg Muffat, an important 18th century Viennese composer active at the courts of Salzburg and Passau. His works are written in a sophisticated style that combines the styles of the Italian Baroque and French dances, which are believed to have influenced Handel, who was active at the same time. Only a few of his works were published during his lifetime, but with the help of master musician Glenn Wilson, we have been able to locate his scores scattered throughout Europe to complete this album consisting of three collections. Naoko Akutagawa] Born in Hiroshima, Akutagawa began playing the piano at the age of 3 and switched to the harpsichord at 16. After studying at Toho Gakuen School of Music, she went on to study with Glenn Wilson at the Musikhochschule Würzburg in Germany.He has recorded solo works by Graupner, Strache and Le Roux, and the violin sonata of Franz Benda for NAXOS, all of which have been highly acclaimed.
