The two oratorios on this album are both "religious works" composed in the 1860s, when Liszt was over 50 years old. Christ" (1866) is a magnificent oratorio that depicts the birth, suffering, and resurrection of Christ. Both works are rarely performed in their entirety and rarely heard. Liszt has extracted beautiful passages from each work and prepared the scores for solo piano performance.
