Among the many works by Liszt (1811-1886), the "Super-Exercise" is particularly popular. But did you know that there were two stages in the development of this popular work? The first was the "12 Exercises," published at the age of 15, which showed signs of genius, but was still just a small study. The next was the "Twelve Grand Exercises," which he revised at the age of 26, and after several revisions, the third draft, published at the age of 41, is the "Super Exercises" that are usually heard. The second draft on this album is a particularly difficult piece to play, and it is said that only Liszt himself could have played it perfectly, and there have been almost no recordings of it (except for the complete Liszt cycle). The fourth piece, later named "Mazeppa," is particularly interesting.Billette, who plays the too difficult version that Liszt would have written while pursuing the limits of his own technique with ease, may well be more than Liszt.
