Description:

Anton Rubinshtein (1829-1894) was the first Russian pianist to achieve worldwide fame and had a profound influence on the Russian piano world from then on, establishing the St. Petersburg Conservatory and the Russian Music Society in 1859. He also left many works in all genres, from operas and symphonies to piano pieces, but unfortunately, except for the small piano pieces "Melody in the key of F" and "Angel's Dream," most of his works have been forgotten. Here you can experience his talent in "Theme and Variations," inspired by Schumann's "Symphonic Exercises," and the salon-like "Orihue" No. 2. Orikku" is an unfamiliar word, but it is a kind of "vertical reading," a device in which you read only the beginning of a line of sentences, and other sentences emerge. This is also a technique favored by Schumann, and in this work by Rubinstein, the sound of "S-O-F-I-A," the name of the person to whom he dedicated the piece, is woven into the piece. Naxos j Japan
