Description:
Following his masterpiece "Adriana Lecouvreur" (1902), Cilea composed the opera "Gloria," but the premiere in Milan in 1908 (conducted by Toscanini) was a failure, and he abandoned his compositional career. Later, while working as a pedagogue, he revised the opera in response to a publisher's request, and in 1932, it was performed again in Naples to great acclaim, but due to the situation in Italy, it did not become an established part of the repertoire. This production is a new production by the Cagliari Opera in Sardinia, which has been vigorously reviving buried operas. The title role will be sung by Anastazia Bartoli, a rising star who made her Japan debut as Lady Macbeth in "Macbeth" conducted by Riccardo Muti at the 2021 Tokyo Spring Music Festival. Anastasia Bartoli is an intelligent soprano with a dramatic, yet limpid expression backed by excellent singing technique. The role of Lionette will be played by Carlo Ventre, a well-known singer in Japan with a brilliant and elongated voice. The role of Lionetto is sung by the well-known Japanese singer Carlo Ventre, who has an elongated and brilliant voice, while the Verdi baritone Franco Vassallo, who is active on the world stage, delivers a superb performance as the dark, passionate adversary.The orchestra of the Teatro Cagliari, led by Francesco Ciruffo, whose repertoire consists mainly of modern and contemporary works, brings new light to the composer's last opera, together with an outstanding singing ensemble.
