Djimon Maile was a composer born in Germany and active in Italy. He left behind some 70 operas, but in his later years he chose as his subject matter the stories of medieval England, a subject that was of great interest to him at the time. This "Alfredo the Great" is one such work, which tells the dramatic story of Alfredo the Great, who fends off an invasion by the Viking army led by the Danish warrior Gutormo and rescues his beloved Arsvita, whom he was forced to marry by Gutormo. The opera is a dramatic story of Alfredo (Alfredo in English) the Great, who rescues his beloved Arsuvita, whom he is forced to marry by Lumo. The opera was a great success when it was first performed, and it also had a great influence on the next generation of bel canto opera composers. Mezzo-soprano Marie-Louise Dressen, who sings the main role, is a young singer who studied in Leipzig and was awarded the "Best Young Actress" prize by "Opernwelt" magazine in 2013. She has a beautiful, elongated voice. Veteran singers such as Markus Schaefer and Daniel Ochoa are also worth listening to.
