The Japanese Ravel with a penetrating eye! Shiro Fukai (1907-59) may be a name new to many of us. However, just by listening to "Falla," the first piece in his "Parodic Four Movements" (1936), we will be completely enchanted by its delicate, precise, and modern sound. We are amazed at the talent of this composer, who has created such a work within just a few years of becoming a full-fledged composer. Shiro Fukai, who was born in the same year as Hisato Osawa and Yorinori Matsudaira, was intelligent enough to study physics at an old high school, and in addition to studying privately with Akira Sugawara and others, he taught himself by memorizing the entire scores of the composers he was interested in. His works, which he considers Ravel as his role model, are elaborate and light. The work "Javanese Songs" on this CD can be said to be modeled after his "Bolero".*Toshu Katayama's liner notes, which discuss the essence of this composer while shedding light on many composers of his generation, are again very thorough. This is a piece that will help you get to know the hardcore modernist Shiro Fukai.
