From Beethoven to Cage. Tiberghien's first collection of Beethoven Variations (HMM902433/4; domestic edition KKC 6676/7), released in February 2023, was highly acclaimed and was specially selected by "Record Geijutsu" magazine. The selection of music is even more elaborate than in the first collection. Disc 1 begins with "32 Variations on a Theme of Creation in C minor," which has no work number, but was written in 1806, the same year as the Piano Concerto No. 4, and shows the fullness of "Beethoven's C minor. Next, we return to the variation technique of 200 years ago with Sverink and 100 years ago with J.S. Bach to explore its influence on Beethoven. Disc 2 is a fascinating look at Beethoven's work in 20th century America. Beethoven reformed the variation form, daring to ignore the thematic material and leaving only its abstract framework. As this has influenced contemporary music, we have selected four works whose sound itself is a silent variation.It is the height of luxury to hear Tiberghian perform works by Cage, Feldman, and Crumb. Tiberghien's nuanced piano tone is perfect for contemporary music. Cage's "In a Landscape," which is not at all avant-garde, is a masterpiece, full of beauty and a message so beautiful that it could be used as background music. It is a glimpse into Tiberghian's new world. The "Seven Haiku" even gives us a sense of the aesthetic of "Wabi Sabi". King International Inc.
