The second installment of the collaborative split 7-inch between i-dep and the acoustic band is—believe it or not—a project where they cover each other’s signature songs! This second installment of the collaborative split 7-inch between these two close-knit bands is a project that fans will be drooling over: they’re covering each other’s songs! Led by Hiroshi Nakamura, the jazz-funk-electro band “i-dep” has rearranged Takeshi Nakatsuka’s “JAPANESEBOY”—a song whose music video has been screened at film festivals in eight countries and was featured in the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony—into a more pop-infused and funky version. The original lyrics, which were based on Shinto prayers, have been rewritten in modern Japanese, resulting in a truly compelling track. Led by Takeshi Nakatsuka—whose previous release, the “Lupin III EP,” charted on the Oricon charts—this “live-sound band” has rearranged i-dep’s “MAGIC” (also famous as a theme song from the movie *Paradise Kiss*) into a high-speed jazz groove accented by a lavish horn section. The refrain from the classic “Rainbow” also makes an appearance at the end of the track. Both sides have been tuned up from the originals to be even more dancefloor-friendly, making this a must-have “double-sided gem” that’s perfect for any party.
