What is a dignified death? This film explores the thoughts of a 92-year-old mother facing death and the feelings of her family. Based on the true story of the mother of former French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin, I was impressed that it was made into a film at all. The protagonist, Madeleine, chooses to end her own life. Her family, of course, opposes her decision, but they also try desperately to accept her wishes. It feels as though this could happen to me at any moment, and the film gave me time to reflect on my own future. Just thinking about death evokes a sense of fear, but watching this film makes me realize that it is something we will all eventually have to face. It is a film that makes you reflect on the entirety of life—one from which I learned so much from a single woman that I want to share it with others. intoxicate(C) Mami Suzuki
