A Collection of Lively Piano Trios by an Up-and-Coming Trio] Formed in 2017, the Mislas Trio won first prize at the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition in 2019 and was selected as a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist from 2021 to 2023. Considered one of the most exciting young piano trios to watch today, their second album features piano trios written during the composers’ early careers. Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 1, composed when he was just 16 years old, is a beautiful, romantic single-movement work that vividly reflects his love for a woman he met while convalescing, while also hinting at the grotesque style that would later become his hallmark. In addition, the work composed by Korngold—hailed as a child prodigy since Mozart—at the age of just 12, while influenced by Mahler, R. Strauss, and Puccini, already demonstrates his own unique personality and astonishing maturity. The album also includes “Petrichor,” a new work commissioned from British cellist and composer Joy Lisney. Meaning “the nostalgic scent that rises when rain falls on dry earth,” this work, which explores a primal connection to water, served as the inspiration for the album title, “Fountain of Youth.” The fresh energy radiating from these young geniuses is vividly brought to life through the brilliant performance of this talented trio.
