A Rachmaninoff Collection That Reflects His Own Life Story] This is the first solo album by rising star Vsevolod Zavidov, born in 2005, who carries on the Russian piano tradition. Currently based in Geneva, he has garnered international acclaim, winning the 1st Radu Lupu Prize in 2024 and the UBS Young Soloists Award in 2025. He has also performed in Japan, including in a duo with Shima Okui, with whom he studied at the Gnesin Academy of Music. This album features Rachmaninoff’s arrangements of Bach’s unaccompanied violin pieces, “Pictures at an Exhibition” Op. 33, and “Variations on a Theme by Corelli,” as well as “Vocalise,” which Zavidov himself arranged for solo piano. This program was conceived in 2023 following an invitation to perform at the La Roque-d’Anthéron Music Festival in France, which he received while staying in Ginza, Tokyo, and became the final repertoire he practiced at his villa on the outskirts of Moscow. He draws parallels between his own situation—having left the country and not yet returned home—and the journey of Rachmaninoff, who left his homeland during a time of upheaval. With his masterful technique and profound musical interpretation, this remarkable recording vividly captures both the historical context of the works and the current state of this young pianist.
