The life of a person is traced through research in various parts of the Mediterranean, where the people who were forced to leave Iberia live. The Valencia region in eastern Spain shares a language with Catalonia to the north and has a unique tradition. The new album by Capella de Ministrellas, an ancient music group based in this region, which is said to be the birthplace of the viola da gamba, travels around the various regions where the Sephardi Jews, who were forced to leave the Iberian Peninsula in the 15th century by an expulsion decree by Christian Spain, which established a unified dynasty, have arrived, The program consists of a collection of songs from these places that trace the life of human beings. The songs are from Venice on the Adriatic Sea, Sofia (Bulgaria) and Thessaloniki (Greece) on the Balkan Peninsula, Istanbul and Odessa around the Black Sea, Casablanca and Tangier (Morocco) in North Africa, Algiers, Tunis, Tripoli, and Alexandria in Egypt, to name a few. The sources of the songs vary widely.The beautiful voice of Françoise Atlin, a French singer of Algerian descent born in the south of France of Jewish and Berber descent, combines rich warmth and freshness, and gives us a glimpse of the traditions of each region that color the flow of people being born, settling into a family home, gaining various experiences, growing up, departing, and dying. The contents are written in Spanish, Catalan-Valencian, and English, and the straightforward commentary draws the reader in. The label's engineering is also reliable, effectively conveying the distinctive tones of the various instruments, and the result is a deeply enjoyable disc that leaves a unique aftertaste.
