A collection of works by the little-known Belgian female composer, Lucie Verrer. In 1957, she was unanimously awarded the first prize in the "International Composition Competition for Women Composers" organized by the American chapter of the International Council for Women, and her prize-winning work, "Syrranks' Song," made her talent known to the world at once. She quit her job to devote herself to composing, and by the time she fell ill in 1966, she had written about 80 works, many of which were never published and were donated to the Royal Conservatory of Brussels by her daughter after her death. Her musical style, influenced by Franck, Fauré, and Debussy through her teacher Joseph Jongen, is characterized by melodic lines reminiscent of Art Nouveau curvature, classical symmetry and brevity, and impressionistic themes (nature, landscape, season, exoticism). While maintaining a tonal framework throughout his life, over time he adopted more radical harmonies, reflecting the influence of Stravinsky, Bartók, and the French Six.This album is a comprehensive collection of Verrère's diverse works for voice, piano, string quartet, and chorus, including many previously unpublished works.
