Popular British violinist Chloe Hanslip recorded a rare work written in England in the early 1940s. Although it was in the midst of World War II, the album is surprisingly charming with its pop and cheerful compositions. This is the first recording of Bennett's Violin Concerto since its premiere in 1941, which was interrupted by an air raid warning and revised in 1956. Hexapoda" is the scientific name for a six-legged arthropod, but the music is jazz-like, lighthearted, and full of wit and humor. It is reminiscent of Gershwin's works. The final movement depicts the image of an evening of frenzied dancing ending with a Sunday visit to church, culminating in the melody of the hymn "God is My Yagura." Here Litton takes the piano and gives a vivid performance. Vernon Duke, whose real name is Vladimir Alexandrovich Dukherisky, changed his name at the suggestion of his friend George Gershwin. The violin concerto was composed at the suggestion of Jascha Heifetz, but was premiered by a different player and long forgotten. Performed by international violinist Chloe Hanslip, who made her BBC Proms debut at the age of 14 and her American Concerto debut at 15, and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andrew Litton, the performance brings out the best of these little-known masterpieces.
