Description:

A sound world centered on the guitar and theorbo that touches the heart of French music history. In the 17th century, when Italian music was at its height, Louis XIV, the Sun King, established a unique French style among the musicians under his control. A careful reading of the music of the French court style reveals that it was strongly influenced by Italy and Spain. Through a selection of music that sheds light on this background, Léa Masson, a new-generation virtuoso who uses modern guitars, ancient guitars from the 19th century and earlier, and theorbo, will play with great skill alongside outstanding instrumentalists and singers. Lully, who later became the royal music director, Corbetta, who was also from Italy and became the king's guitar teacher, and his pupil de Vizet, who sometimes played solo and sometimes accompanied with vocal and instrumental music, explore how the guitar of Spanish origin was used at the court of Louis XIV, who was familiar with the guitar from his childhood, before the queen from the Spanish royal family. The exhibition explores how the guitar of Spanish origin was utilized in the kingdoms of Naples and Milan. It is also important to note that guitar music was also introduced to Italy at the same time, through the Kingdom of Naples, the Duchy of Milan, and other areas that became Spanish territory.Léa Masson switches to theorbo in some pieces such as de Vizée's chaconne and vocal works, and invites the listener to a deep appreciation experience through careful sound production that slowly brings out the form of each piece, without relying on her own superb fingerings or the momentum characteristic of the instrument.
