[The limpid Rossini Mass by specialists in German Baroque music. Rossini said of this Mass, which he wrote in his later years, "This is the last deadly sin of an old man," while mocking himself, "I wrote it with all my heart. The composition is on a chamber music scale, with a minimum of 12 singers including soloists, two pianos, and harmonium. In this recording, the second piano, which mainly traces the chorus part, is omitted, and a part of it is absorbed by the first piano. The vocalists of note are the Reinische Kantorai (Rhine Choir), an ensemble founded in 1977 that has made numerous recordings of early German Baroque music for the CAPRICCIO label and other labels under the direction of Hermann Max. Here, under the direction of Bruchals, artistic director since 2024, the ensemble renews the impression of the works with a clear, limpid sound with low vibrato and a high degree of precision. The soloists, all of whom are well-known singers in the field of classical music, sometimes use very eloquent and large scale operatic expressions, resulting in a full and rich performance that is more than just a neat and tidy performance.
