Neeme Järvi Shakes Furtwängler! Furtwängler, who inherited the spirit and philosophy of the German Romantic school, was a musician who not only performed existing works but also composed his own music. Of the three symphonies he left behind, the best known is the Second, composed during his exile in Switzerland. It is a large work that takes more than 70 minutes to perform. The motifs of "fate" and "destiny" in German music are expressed as heavy ffff and church organ sounds, and delicate woodwind sounds are used impressively in the third movement. The third movement is characterized by the impressive use of delicate woodwind sounds. The descending form of the theme of the first movement is the pillar of the composition as a circular theme that runs through the entire piece. In this live recording by the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Neeme Järvi, the tempo is relatively fast, giving the work a unique sense of tension and speed. The vigorous approach to the development of the heavy music leaves a strong impression on the listener. Naxos Japan
