It is well known that Marie-Antoinette, who was welcomed by the French royal family in 1770, loved the harp, which was also loved in her native Vienna. In this album, you can listen to such ensemble works with strings published in Paris in the 1770s. The composer Godchartres was a violinist who played at the court of Brussels, the French-speaking capital, as well as at the city church, and Charles Burney, an English musician who visited Brussels in 1772, testified that he was present when Godchartres played with a harpist. This quartet formation, in which the harp plays the leading role and the ensemble is rich, is quite rare in the history of music. The Société Lunaire, which discovered this collection at the same time as the famous concertos by Mozart and Krumpholz, is an ensemble of front-line German instrumentalists, and here they have used the harp of Queen Marie-Antoinette, which had gained a reputation before her death, even before the double action pedal by Erard was patented. The reproduction instrument is based on the model of the famous Paris harp workshop Renaud & Chatelain.Careful engineering by recording engineer Rainer Arndt, who has also been active as a baroque violinist for a long time, has brought the lost sounds of Rococo back to the present day with freshness.
